Eating and Relaxing at the Show
01.09.2003
For many visitors the highlight of the Royal County
of Berkshire Show is the array of delicious food to try and buy.
From the morning's sizzling bacon roll to an afternoon's strawberries
and cream tea, it is all there.
The Food Fare, one of the largest marquees is
a good starting point. There are over 50 stands selling everything
from fresh bread to wild venison. Newcomers include Gourmet Med
- a delicatessen with a range of Italian breads and Getoily.com.
who continue the Mediterranean theme with their extra virgin olive
oil, olives and delicacies. With the Best of British is Gerald
David, a traditional family butcher who sells meat sourced from
local Somerset farms.
Organics are well looked after with Belvoir Fruit Farms and their
organic fruit drinks, Blackburne & Haynes - farmhouse ice
cream using milk and cream from organic pedigree Jersey cows and
David Farquhar - a gourmet range of smoked organic products.
Prize-winning cheeses, country wines, homemade pates and spicy
sauces will add to the gastronomic experience. Edward Dann, this
year's new head of the section, said, "There's a wide variety,
but uppermost is quality, whether you've a sweet or savoury tooth."
There are three new rest areas, all near the fast food mobile
outlets, making them ideals spots for enjoying a snack. Whether
it is a hog roast, a sizzling Simmental beef roll, Harry Ramsden's
fish & chips, a French Upper Crust baguette, Cornish pasty,
Kentucky style fried chicken, a vegetarian option, doughnuts, crepes,
ice cream or just a Tetley cup of tea! There's plenty of choice.
For members, the Ringside Enclosure will have a new style of buffet
- 'Hot Pans'. The old favourite Seafood Bar will also be there
and a three course lunch will be served both days in the Members
Dining area.
