Be a Media Star
TV and Radio Stations Broadcasting from the Show
23.08.02
Visitors to the Royal County of Berkshire Show will have a chance
to appear in front of the cameras, as BBC South Today will have
a fully operational studio on their stand in Avenue C. BBC South
is offering full radio and television support to this year’s
Show and visitors will be able to learn how to read the News and
take away a VHS recording of their performance.
Both BBC Radio Berkshire and BBC Radio Oxford will be in attendance
at Newbury Showground broadcasting programmes live across both
days.
On Saturday, Andrew Peach and the team will be live from 9am and
on Sunday, Jeremy Dry will broadcast his mid-morning programme.
At noon, there will be a very special edition of "The Dig
It" phone-in with Chris Phillips, when listeners attending
the Show will be invited to take part in a ‘Gardeners Question
Time’ type programme.
In addition the Show will have its own radio station, ShowTime,
operated by Reading College and School of Arts and Design. The
College offers a wide range of media courses and has its own full-time
on-air AM radio station Blast 1386. By providing ShowTime Reading
College illustrates its commitment to the high-quality education
and training it provides, preparing students in a practical way
for a career in broadcasting.
Working hand-in-hand with local full-time broadcasters, BBC Radio
Berkshire, 2-TEN FM and KICK FM, who are all broadcasting from
the Showground ShowTime will provide first-hand news, interviews,
features, gossip and traffic reports for exhibitors and visitors.
Regular industry presenters will work alongside College students
providing a running news and information service with music played
from a library of over 6000 tracks ranging from the 50s to the
latest charts.
ShowTime is a concept that has evolved from the Restricted Service
License scheme offered by the Radio Authority under the Broadcasting
Acts 1990 and 1992, whereby any company, organisation or individual
can run a licensed radio station for up to 28 days.
