Getting Busy with 600 Lizzies
11.06.02
Over six hundred Busy Lizzie plants have been delivered to eighteen
local primary schools in preparation for a competition at this month’s
Newbury Summer Show. The plug plants, complete with growing instructions,
are provided by the Berkshire College of Agriculture, (BCA) who also
have a Hot Line telephone number for schools to contact with growing
queries!
This is the first year entries for the best plant, most flowers
and log book will be displayed at the Summer Show being held on
29th and 30th June at Newbury Showground. The competition was planned
last year, but due to foot and mouth disease Show organisers, the
Newbury & District Agricultural Society, had to cancel the
weekend event.
Other attractions at the packed Show include: Crafts and Food,
Hobbies, Small Animals, Poultry, Complementary Therapies, Historic
Commercial Vehicles, Terrier Racing and an Antiques Fair.
There will be plenty for the budding Alan Titchmarsh and Charlie
Dimmocks as the Newbury International Orchid Show, the largest
annual orchid event in Europe returns with growers from the States,
South America and Australia joining a score of the UK’s top
orchid societies on the Showground.
Admission: Adults - £5.00, Children under 16 - Free.
