Like Fathers and Sons
Following in Father's footsteps applies this year
to both the President and Chairman of the Newbury & District
Agricultural Society, organisers of the Royal County of Berkshire
Show. Sir William Benyon, father of Richard was President in 1992
and John, father of Michael Bowden held the post in 1976.
The Bowden family has farmed at nearby Brimpton for over 100 years
and Michael proudly confirms he has been at every single Show since
he was born.
It is Michael's greatest wish that livestock would again take pride
of place at this year's Royal County of Berkshire Show. He commented, "Farming
has changed dramatically with less farms and fewer farm animals.
It therefore is important that we showcase and applaud the tremendous
efforts of those still in the industry."
Talking of plans for his year in office Michael stressed the importance
of involving young people. "We want to know their thoughts.
The future of farming is in their hands and we must listen," he
said.
